“I have a secretary that flies off the handle every time I confront her about her work.  Is there anything I can do to prevent this sort of conflict?”

Answer
There certainly is. We like to recommend a method called ‘The Sandwich Technique’. You should start the corrective feedback process with a positive remark about some aspect of your secretary’s work. Then deliver the corrective feedback in specific terms and in a sincere manner. This we usually find is well accepted. Finally, you should reinforce this process with a positive comment which should leave her feeling positive about tackling the task at hand. Successfully Answering the Phone

Every time you make or receive a call at work, you are representing yourself and your company.  The impression you create will be a lasting one.  Make sure your voice and mannerism reflect that you are alert and at your best.
